We are thrilled to announce we have set an Official World Record™after pulling a 4.5-tonne bus continuously for 24 hours around Tarrant Rushton Airfield to raise money for our chosen charity, the HealthBus Trust. And, most importantly, we’ve raised over £10,000 doing so!
The challenge, which took place recently in the heat wave, involved our incredible team hauling the HealthBus vehicle non-stop around a 5km loop throughout the day and night. Battling high temperatures, searing sun, exhaustion, blisters, and muscle fatigue, the team heaved the bus uphill to the finish line in a remarkable test of endurance and teamwork.
By the end of the challenge, we completed 24 laps, covering 120 kilometres. Relay teams, consisting of six people pulling and up to four people pushing the bus, ensured the bus never stopped moving. The Official World Record™ was overseen by the Blandford Rotary Club and has been verified ahead of inclusion in the Official World Record Book.
We organised the fundraising effort in support of HealthBus, a local charity to us which provides essential healthcare and medical services for people experiencing homelessness across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The HealthBus is a specially converted ambulance that has all the facilities of a medical practitioner’s office, providing a safe and non-judgmental GP-led service
David Cracklen said, “This was without doubt the toughest challenge we’ve ever taken on as a business. There were moments during the night when people were running on pure determination, carrying injuries and exhaustion, but nobody wanted to stop.
“What kept us going was knowing why we were doing it. We went home afterwards to our beds, but the homeless don’t have that luxury. If this challenge helps raise awareness and vital funding for such an important local charity, then every kilometre was worth it.”
Deano Pickering from HealthBus added, “What the AJC team has achieved is genuinely incredible. The money raised will make a huge and very real difference to the people we support across the community, and we can’t thank everyone involved enough.”
We’ve raised over £10,000 for HealthBus through the challenge, however donations are still being collected and very much encouraged! Every penny is put towards healthcare directly for people experiencing homelessness in BCP area. To support, visit https://www.justgiving.com/page/ajc-group-1772185742297?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL
