Dorset based AJC Group has won the contract to deliver an affordable housing development of 22 homes in Hythe, The New Forest, on behalf of the New Forest District Council.
The completed development will include a mix of homes, ranging from one and two-bedroom apartments, to two, three, and four-bedroom family houses. New public open space will also be created as well as a play area. New planting of native species and planting for pollinators will be carried out, to enhance and benefit the local wildlife.
Located south of Beaulieu Road, the new development is in an extremely accessible location less than one mile from Hythe town centre, and will provide much needed affordable homes for this part of The New Forest.
The site originally accommodated the old NHS Hythe and Dibden War Memorial Hospital, with a new state of the art hospital being built in 2022 on the adjoining site.
David Cracklen, Director of AJC Group, said: “We are delighted to have won the contract to deliver this important affordable housing site in Hythe. This development will go some way to meeting the local housing needs of the community, and will create affordable housing in a sustainable and accessible location. Historically, The New Forest has not benefited from enough affordable housing, especially for families and first time buyers and it is encouraging to see the NFDC council adopt such a forward thinking vision. As part of our commitment of building 500 affordable homes in the next 5 years, we are proud to be providing an opportunity to own a home in this beautiful area of Hampshire.”
The homes have been sensitively designed to be in keeping with the local area, as well creating an attractive and welcoming streetscene to complement the existing properties surrounding the site.
Built in either a terrace style or semi detached, the houses will use high quality materials including red brick, zinc faced roofing and grey UPVC windows will be used throughout the housing development. The apartments will follow a similar design and will have access to a communal amenity space, a bin store and bike store.
Local transport can be easily accessed via the road adjacent to the development, with frequent bus services to local towns and villages including Calshot, Langley, Lepe and Fawley, as well as the city of Southampton.
Shopping and amenities are a short walking distance from the development, with Fairview Shopping Parade opposite, as well as several local nurseries, infant and primary schools under a mile away.
Construction is due to commence Summer 2024.
